What is Rattan?
Rattan is a vine that grows in the tropical rainforests of Indonesia. Known for its rapid growth rate, rattan can grow as much as 6 meters per year, and some species can reach up to 100 meters in length. With more than 600 species of rattan, only about 10 species are used for furniture and home decor.
Sustainable Rattan Harvesting
Rattan has become an essential material in the furniture and decor industries, but its harvesting often comes with significant environmental and social challenges. Unsustainable practices have led to deforestation and the exploitation of local communities. To address these issues, sustainable harvesting methods are essential.
Rattan production can be a sustainable way to benefit both the environment and the people, provided it is sourced responsibly.
Certification
Our rattan is ROLEs certified, ensuring that the entire production process, from the forest to the final product, meets high sustainability standards. This certification guarantees that customers are supporting ethical and environmentally conscious practices when they purchase rattan products.
What is Seagrass?
Seagrass is a plant that grows along the edges of waterways, thriving in wet conditions. After harvesting, the leaves are dried and woven into cords, which are then made into beautiful, handcrafted baskets.
Why Seagrass is Sustainable
Seagrass is not only a natural material but also a sustainable choice for eco-conscious consumers. It provides jobs and economic opportunities to people in rural areas, especially women who can weave the baskets at home.
In 2018, over 1,000 women were involved in the production of seagrass baskets, allowing them to earn income and improve their independence.
Quality and Transparency
We regularly test our seagrass for pesticides or chemicals to ensure it remains pure and safe. So far, no traces of harmful chemicals have been found, and we plan to continue testing to maintain transparency and quality.
When you choose sustainably sourced rattan and handcrafted seagrass baskets, you're making a positive impact on both the environment and local communities:
